Setelah menemukan A Ling dan melepas rindu si Ikal melamar A Ling. Namun saat Ikal meminta izin ayahnya untuk meminang A Ling. Si ayah yang sangat pendiam itu tidak mengatakan ‘tidak’ tapi tersirat dari makna wajahnya si Ayah tidak mengizinkannya. Tentu hal ini membuat Ikal sedih. Apa gerangan yang membuat Sang Ayah tidak memberi izin pada Ikal untuk meminang A Ling?
Pertama, mungkin Ayahnya menginginkan Ikal menikah dengan wanita seiman. Seperti kita ketahui A Ling sering ke klenteng dan Ikal kadang ke masjid.
Kedua, mungkin Ayahnya ingin anaknya menikah dengan yang satu ras Melayu.
Ketiga, mungkin juga Ayahnya sudah menyiapkan Jodoh.
Keempat, kemungkinan yang paling mungkin si Ayah ingin punya istri muda yaitu A Ling. Wkakakk…………. 
1 Januari kita kenal sebagai Tahun baru, siapa yang tidak tahu itu. Namun hari ini, 1 Januari 2009, memiliki arti lebih bagiku. Apa saja itu? Hari ini berarti:
- ulang tahunku yang ke-21;
- KTP mati 01-01-2009;
- SIM mati udah lewat satu tahun;
- dewasa menurut hukum;
- besok balik ke Jakarta;
- 4 hari lagi UTS semester V;
